Things to do when I touchdown in Manila:
- buy taho for breakfast from the same taho guy for the past 10 years
- look for old baby pics and school pics and scan them
- hang out with everyone and everyone
- visit the old campus
- get pareng ronald mcdonald to deliver my breakfast
- have a mango shake or a halo halo on the beach
- go to a sonic boom event
- take more pictures than last time
It's a strange transition... jumping from city to city.
One of the things I really look forward to is the actual plane ride. I know a lot of people hate the hassles encountered on a long flight. I actually like it. I like checking in. I like walking through all the overpriced duty free shops. I like the wait in the boarding area moments before walking through the snakelike passage to the fuselage of the plane. During those few minutes of solitude before boarding, I reflect on the 'goodbyes' from earlier and anticipate the 'hellos' that are waiting for me when I reach my destination.
It's a beautiful kind of sadness.
I think the only thing I don't like is the security check. Emptying my pockets, putting my wallet, shoes, phone, watch, belt... At least I haven't been 'groped' yet. I dread the phrase "This one needs a cavity search." Exit only, man, exit only!
* I wrote this a few days ago... it's unfinished but I wanted to post it while I had the chance. I'm sitting here waiting to board the flight to Manila after a grueling 10 hours here at the Dubai airport. I feel like a zombie right now (I probably look like one too since I'm drooling and making grumbling sounds). I wanted to post more about my long stay here but my brain is like a turnip right now. Why a turnip? I don't know. What is a turnip? Meron ba nun sa Pilipinas?
